Chapter Eleven

I wake up much like I did the morning in the hotel after Sam’s wedding: alone in a cold bed with the sound of her throwing up filtering through from the en suite.

Hoping that might be where the similarities end, I quickly make my way to her. I don’t say anything as I enter, assuming that the squeaky door is enough to announce my entrance.

Dropping down beside her, I take her hair in one hand and rub her back with the other. She tenses for a second, but, unlike last time, she relaxes before heaving once again.

I sit silently beside her, hoping that I might be helping but feeling completely useless. I wish I could take it all away from her.
